4 STATE TITLES 🥇🥇🥇🥇
Cougars Track and Field had their most successful State Championship weekend, EVER.
Friday started with Gabriel Garcia and Caleb Petruccio throwing- Caleb finished 4th in Shot Put and 6th in Discus. He is number 2 all time at CCS in the Shot Put. Gabriel threw in the Discus competition and ended up 3rd overall and he currently holds the number 2 spot all time CCS for Discus.
Saturday was a DAY. Olivia Gonzalez and Josh DeRamus kicked off the day in the 100m- OG finished 8th but a PR time 13.50. Josh followed shortly after with a STATE TITLE time of 11.01… his first of the day. The girls 4x200m Relay was next up- Olivia, Scarlett Mayorga, Ella Munson and Kate Rudy ran their way to a STATE TITLE and SCHOOL RECORD time of 1:50.42. Jumping back to the guys side, Coleman Perkins and Josh DeRamus had gold on the mind in the 400m. Perkins battled his way to a 5th place finish clocking 51.87, while DeRamus lowered his SCHOOL RECORD time to 49.65 and captured his second STATE TITLE of the day. Next, DeRamus had a short turn around before the 200m, but enough to get the legs feeling good again- which he then put all doubts aside and ran away from the field to secure his TRIPLE CROWN and claim the 200m STATE TITLE with a new SCHOOL RECORD time of 22.17. Last race of the day was the girls 4x400- Mayorga, Munson, Gonzalez, and Chloe Wade got to work in the 97° heat. The Lady Cougars lowered their SCHOOL RECORD to a new time of 4:23.26 but ended the race in 5th. All 8 teams in the race ran PR times… fast times in the heat.
The Lady Cougars finished in 9th overall and the Men’s team finished 7th overall. 9 athletes scored a total of 77 points and to cap it off Josh DeRamus was named the 3A Male Athlete of the Meet for the TAPPS State Championships.
